While using an Android apps, have you tried disabling an ad but couldn’t do so? Chances are you may have been a victim of a malicious adware doing rounds on Google Play store.

Cybersecurity software company Check Point has listed 22 flashlight and utility apps on Google Play Store that have this adware. Dubbed as LightsOut, this has reached a spread of between 1.5 million and 7.5 million downloads.

“The suspicious scripts overrides the user’s decision to disable ads showing outside of a legitimate context, and then, in many of the Android apps, hides its icon to hinder efforts to remove it. This is a purely malicious activity, as it has no other possible purpose other than eluding the user,” said Check Point in its research.
